WESTERN PROVINCE NYAMASHEKE — Farmers from various sectors of Nyamasheke district have vowed to adopt modern farming skills in order to enhance their agriculture production. The group of 40 farmers from Kanjongo, Kagano, Karengera and Macuba sectors, made the commitment over weekend, after visiting several successful farmers in Bushekeli sector. Speaking to The New Times, Silvestre Nshimiyimana, a veterinary officer in Kanjongo, who led the farmers explained that they visited Bushekeli in order to share farming techniques with their fellow farmers and see how they could adopt the techniques to increase agricultural output in their area. “We as farmers from Kanjongo visited our colleagues here in Bushekeli in order to see how we can also adopt modern farming techniques and increase our agriculture production in the next seasons. Farmers in Bushekeli have done it and I am optimistic we shall also achieve it,” Nshimiyimana said. While in Bushekeli, the farmers inspected various banana and coffee plantations in Buvungira, Munini and Nyarusange cells and some exemplary hills in Ngoma cell. Clement Twizere, who was among the group, commended the Kanjongo sector leaders for organising the study tour, saying the skills learnt would help them enhance farming. Among the 18 sectors of Nyamasheke district, Bushekeli sector is one of the sectors with the leading farmers. Ends
