Rwanda Energy Group (REG) women basketball club has added American shooting guard Jennings Chelsea and point guard Heyes Faith Anastasia to their roster for 2023 FIBA Zone Five Women’s Championship. The showpiece is scheduled to tipoff on Saturday, October 28 in Kigali, and run through to November 4. Her 6.3 (190.50cm) wingspan on defence creates the ability to get steals and deflections while her mid-range jumper is the opponents’ biggest threat. While she can score off the dribble, she also attacks the basket beside showing ability to finish through contact. She is that high-energy player you need on your team to get you going when your team needs baskets -utilizing her aggressive and creative style of play. Hayes, on the other hand, is a former player for teams like the Middle Tennessee basketball team in the United States. In 2021, she was selected for top female athlete after her sterling season on the hardwood for the C-USA champion Lady Raiders. The point guard turned in one of the best individual seasons in the country for a women's basketball player on her way to C-USA Player of the Year. She was also named the most outstanding player of the C-USA Championships after leading the Lady Raiders to the title. Hayes was the nation's second-leading scorer with 26.5 points per game and was Top 10 nationally in six total categories. She led C-USA in scoring and steals and was second for assists. The Zone V championship will bring together ten teams from six countries, with Rwanda serving as the host nation. Participating teams comprise Vijana Queens and JKT Stars from Tanzania, Nile Legends from South Sudan, JKL Lady Dolphins and UCU Lady Canons from Uganda, Kenya Ports Authority and Zetech University from Kenya, and Gladiators from Burundi.
