Volleyball memorial tournament set for June

The Rwanda Volleyball fraternity will honour the victims of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi with a volleyball tournament slated for June 6-7 according to Gustave Nkurunziza, President of Rwanda Volleyball Federation. Over 46 members including players, coaches, and administrators were killed during the genocide which claimed more than one million people. Nkurunziza called on the volleyball fraternity to continue the spirit of remembering the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. “Our aim is to continue to be united and spread love to all Rwandans through the sport of volleyball. We need to build strong relationships, which will help us to build a stronger nation,” Nkurunziza said. Teams from Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda Congo Brazzaville and Burundi are expected to take part in the tournament. The Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Education of Kibungo (ISAE) won last year’s edition after beating APR 3-0 while in the women category, seven-time African champions, Kenya Pipeline Club triumphed after beating Rwanda Revenue Authority 3-0. Since 1995, the Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB) is one of the federations that organises annual Genocide memorial tournaments. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
