Editor, Plus ça change; haven’t we yet understood that our football problems are much more fundamental than a change in mere national coach? What we require is a root-and-branch overhaul of our national game from top to bottom and a rethink and complete reset that bases the new system on a rebuilding from the local grassroots level. Quick fixes won’t work. No national manager, no matter how exceptional, will bring us the immediate glory that we seem to crave.
