MTN Rwanda donates Rwf2.5m to coop for disabled women in Rubavu

Women have great potential to create and implement solutions to their community problems, Mary Asiimwe, the MTN human resource general manager, has said. “By working together, women can be a big force for positive change. We need to work together and support each other,” Asiimwe said while handing over a Rwf2.5 million cheque to Cooperative Tuzamurane Kanama (KOTUKA) in Rubavu as part of the activities for its Women’s Month celebrations. She argued that women empowerment and the sustainability of development are naturally intertwined. Cooperative Tuzamurane Kanama provides disabled women with the skills to help them start economic projects to increase household incomes. Nzabanzimana Jean d’Amour, the president of the Kotuka Cooperative, said the donation will help them expand their operations and ensure they make a difference in the lives of women and their families. Jean Sebikari, the Executive of Kanama Sector, lauded MTN for its continued efforts aimed at uplifting and empowering Rwandan communities. Jeanette Muhire Kagaba, the co-ordinator of disabled persons in Rubavu District, said such donations help unlock the potential of disabled people, ensuring that they too contribute to the transformation of their societies. business@newtimes.co.rw
