Kigali Institute of Management (KIM): Providing quality education, rewarding excellence

By Elias Hakizimana The Kigali Institute of Management (KIM) on March 13 graduated 178 students (124 female) in the options of accounting,banking, and finance. Graduates were called upon to embrace hard work and make use of the acquired knowledge and skills to develop themselves and transform the communities they live in. Peter Rutaremara, the Chairman of the Institute’s board of directors urged graduates not to fall to the vices of ‘mediocrity and laziness’ which he said are enemies of success. He noted that the only way to a successful life is hard work. “Sitting there and waiting for things to be done for you is not wise. Do not expect to be employed but strive to create your own jobs. Move with the ability to continually learn, develop and sustain the skills and knowledge you have acquired over time to create jobs,” he counseled the graduands. Mr Rutaremara promised to make learning a lot easier at KIM when the Institute introduces e-learning in the near future. “We will soon introduce distance learning leveraging on the state-of-the art technology that we invested in using e-learning platforms”. Professor Sewe Mutsotso , the acting chancellor of KIM argued graduates to contribute tangibly to the development of the country using the knowledge and skills that they have acquired from KIM. He said that the graduads have a responsibility to shape society they live in. Rewarding excellence During the ceremony, 15 top performing students from the options of accounting, finance and banking were awarded for excellence. They walked away with prizes which included laptops computers provided by BRITAM; an insurance business company. These students will also be provided free trainings in accounting software offered by MSV Technologies Ltd. Others have been offered an opportunity to pursue a Certified Public Accountants (CPA) course courtesy of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Rwanda. Fair Construction Company and RUMA, a local accounting firm offered job positions to top performers in this year’s graduation. The best students were Agatha Kwalikunda and Katayike Monic who scored First Class degree in BBM Accounting. Justin Mbera, one of the best students who were awarded urged that the knowledge he acquired from KIM will enable him to start his own business.
