RRA off for African Women V-ball Club tourney

Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) volleyball club, yesterday, left for the 25th African Women Volleyball Club Championships due on March 25 to April 6 in Cairo, Egypt, determined to impress in the continental show piece. The national women volleyball champions will also be looking to become the first Rwandan side to reach the semi-finals since the inauguration of the African meet in 1986. In an interview with Times Sport before the team departed, RRA coach Jean Luc Ndayikengurukiye said his players had prepared well for the event, promising better performances at the event. “I believe we did our best to prepare for this tournament and what’s remaining now is to go out there and prove our worth in Egypt. We first had problems with services and blocking but it is now fixed, I’m totally convinced that I have a squad capable of performing well in a competition of this magnitude,” Ndayikengurukiye said. He also disclosed that he is aware of a stiff challenge he will face from reigning champions GSP Alger, Kenyan giants Prisons and Kenya Pipelines among others. APR represented the country in the same tournament last year which was held in Tunis-Tunisia. Algeria’s GSP Alger defeated 2013 champions Kenya Prisons 3 sets to zero. Kenya Pipelines have won the tournament a record 7 times, two ahead of Egypt’s Al Ahly and Kenya Prisons respectively. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
