EASTERN PROVINCE Nyagatare—A Senior-4 student of Nyagatare secondary school identified has committed suicide after his parents failed to meet tuition fees. Authorities have been asking all students to clear tuitions or face suspension. Warren Mugabo, 27, was found dead at home this week. His debt to the school was Frw38,500. A Senior-4 bio-chemistry student, Mugabo was considered one of the brightest and most academically aggressive students in the class. Friends say his parents’ refusal to pay school fees led to the suicide. Nyagatare secondary head teacher Edward M Kabale said Mugabo could have had domestic problems which always made him disturbed him. “We established that the father had separated with his mother and both had remarried off with other partners, because some sources from within the family of the deceased said that the family had misunderstandings that could have compelled the young man to take his life,” Kabale said. This week another student, Feline Nishimwe was caught trying to poison herself in another suicide attempt. School authorities discovered her and brought her to Rukomo health centre. Ends
