Kampala is the way forward!

The last time I went to Museveni-land, I was left cursing my decision to do so. Uganda totally left me cold; it was polluted, dirty, loud and way too hot. I’d actually sworn not to go back anytime soon but trust me not to heed my own resolution. I couldn’t resist the temptation to give that country another go….and thank goodness I did, I had quite a good time, if I may say so myself. I’ve always thought that we have a good time over here…with our Jungle Nights and Carnivals…..WAPI! And the best part is that I had a blast despite Kampala being as polluted, noisy and crowded as I had left it last. But I’ve got to admit it…the journey there is for World Cup. Sitting on my rear end for nine hours isn’t my cup of tea and the Luganda music that the guys at Jaguar Buses felt they had to torture us with, made things worse. But even that ended well….by the time the hills of Kampala came into view I was bobbing my head to the beats of some guy called Ssemakula. I’d become a bona fide ‘Omugande’! It being a Friday, I had no choice but to plan how I’d ‘sleep in my shoes’. I made a few calls and, fresh to death-smelling and looking like a million bucks; I made my way to some joint called Mateo’s. Now, this place was like nothing, I’d ever seen in my life. This ‘Mateo’s’ is situated right in the center of Kampala. That isn’t a big deal…until you realize that people were dancing and drinking right on the sidewalk. That’s right…pedestrians weren’t really cared for. But who was I to agitate for their rights? I jumped right in, got a gin and tonic and started ogling the females. Now that I’ve mentioned the ‘ladies’, let me talk about the belles there. Our ladies here are second to none….HOWEVER; I have to admit that I really stared at some of the local lasses. They were curveous and to make things more interesting, they were dressed to impress. What impressed me was how they didn’t die of pneumonia. They were more-or-less naked. And I wasn’t complaining! I, along with friends, stayed at Mateo’s for a drink or two and then went to some place called Kabalagala. It was hilarious; in a space of fifty meters I saw fifteen open air bars/nightclubs and each was blasting its own music mix into the night air. I went into one called Wendy’s which was about the size of my bedroom; but it belonged to an old schoolmate and I decided to support him. They say, ‘when in Rome do as the Romans do...”….I did exactly that. Just when I was getting comfortable I was whisked unto another moto which drove to some joint called Al’s Bar. Well, that place was so strange; white men were everywhere and the ladies looked like they bathed in makeup- I don’t want to think it…but I wondered whether I’d been thrown into a brothel. But I had met a nice Burundian girl at Mateo’s and she’d been with me the whole evening…so, I just shrugged and got down to business. “What business”, you ask? None of yours…hahahaha. I went to bed at seven that morning…and then did about the same thing until Monday. To say that I had fun would be an understatement; I had a BLAST! Uganda is the way forward; I highly recommend it.
