NORTHERN PROVINCE MUSANZE — Since the parliamentary campaigns started, the Social Democratic Party (PSD) recorded the highest turn out of supporters during their final rally in Musanze on Thursday. Coming three days ahead of parliamentary elections, the rally made an impact in Ruhengeri town. PSD party advocates for good welfare, justice and development. Speaking at the rally, Dr J Damascene Ntawukuriryayo, the party’s Secretary General, reviewed the party’s achievements in the last legislative assembly and implored party followers to massively vote in next week’s polls in order to increase their representation in parliament. Ntawukuriryayo who is also the Health minister, said the party has in the past actively involved in various political and economic development programmes. Some of these include advocating for regional integration and the scrapping of the death penalty. He said PSD was still committed to advocating for the good welfare of all Rwandans with focus on the need to extend health insurance to all people. PSD is headed by the Senate president Dr Vincent Biruta. It was created in 1991and became one of the opposition parties to the then ruling extremist party MRND. Presenting the party’s manifesto, Marc Rugenera, the party’s vice president. asked the electorate to make their parliamentary representatives and the party in particular accountable for their pledges. “The party shall remain accountable for their pledges indicated in the manifesto, including participation in formulating policies geared towards economic development, farming, and industrialization,” he said.
