RWANDA has staked bulky monetary rewards for her Amavubi Stars if they qualify for the 2010 World Cup finals due in South Africa. The Ministry of Culture and Sport confirmed the development to Times Sport on Wednesday saying a fully-furnished mansion and unspecified amount of dollars is what every Amavubi team player will earn if they qualify for the 2010 World Cup finals. Minister Joseph Habineza said, “Every Amavubi team player will pocket a big cash prize and get a fully-furnished house of his dream if they qualify for the 2010 World Cup finals,” “They are on the brighter edge of reaching the World Cup finals and the promise will be fulfilled no matter,” Habineza said. Habineza further added that the players will have their match bonuses increased if they reach the third and final qualifying round of the 2010 World Cup which gets underway next year. Currently, the Amavubi team settles for $1500 for every 2010 World/Africa Cup qualifier won and with Ethiopia game three weeks away, it will all depend on the players to pocket the pledged money by defeating the Walya Antelopes in Kigali on October 12. Rwanda took control of Group Eight after edging Mauritania 1-0 in the weekend’s qualifier through Bobo Bola’s 81st header. Amavubi Stars have lost once and won four times to top Group Eight with 12 points while Morocco stands in the second position with nine points as their game against Ethiopia was postponed after the world’s football governing body, Fifa banned Ethiopia because of the government’s interference in the sport.
