Ban Ki-moon appoints new deputy special envoy for Monusco

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon yesterday appointed David Gressly as the new Deputy Special Representative for United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Monusco). Gressly, 59, replaces Abdallah Wafy of Niger who held the post since 2013. The American previously served in the same mission as Police Commissioner and Head of the Mission’s police component between 2010 and 2013, according to a statement. Before his appointment, Gressly served as Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, and as the United Nations Resident Coordinator/Humanitarian Coordinator and Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in the United Nations Multi-dimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (Minusma). He also served as Regional Coordinator in the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS). Prior to this, Gressly served for more than 20 years with the United Nations, including as Regional Humanitarian Coordinator for the Sahel in Senegal. He holds a Master of Business Administration in International Finance from the American Graduate School of International Management in Glendale, Arizona (USA).
