Editor, I wish to react to the story, “US body begins nurturing Rwanda students’ talents” (The New Times, February 3). Kudos to those behind the initiative. However, I have a concern on the process the Government uses to identify partners who work with our children on some of these initiatives. Looking at the website of Ashoka, they seem to have various activities. Does the Ministry of Education carry out due diligence (together with security organs) on the staff (especially expatriate) involved in these activities? Does it evaluate the programme contents and ensure there is nothing compromising our precious Rwandan youth? Do they do monitoring and follow-up (e.g. the organisation should write regular reports on the achievements and a team to carry out verification activities). I know of many cases where suspect individuals like pedophiles, sexual predators, or funny content (e.g one that advocates same sex rights etc) are introduced in such “programmes”. Kigali Girl
