A short performance of contemporary theatre is scheduled on Monday at the Goethe-Institut, Kigali. This is a follow up of a drama and dramaturgy workshop held in December, last year, and conducted by Dutch drama teacher Pieter van de Werve and Goethe-Institut volunteer Kassandra Beckmann. Participants are a group of local dancers and actors, who will also stage a scene collage as a workshop presentation. Rehearsals started yesterday, January 30, while performances on Monday are expected to start at 6:30pm. “This is going to be a session about expressing genuine emotions, from the inside to the outside. The theatrical training expounds on dramatic theory, physical theatre and improvisation,” Beckmann said. Kassandra said they want the audience to relate with what is happening on stage. “The main aim of the actors is to develop empathy within the audience”. Last year’s workshop focused on the basics of drama and dramaturgy, which Pieter said, was about “the performers connecting with the audience.”
