The new term opens on January 26 bringing an end to the long holiday that started over two months ago. In preparation for the fresh term, parents are busy doing shopping for their children and trying to raise school fees. It is arguably the most stressful period for any parent or guardian. But how prepared are schools to receive learners for the new term? Do they have enough facilities and staff to ensure the students are comfortable and learning well? The Education Times visited a number of schools and brings you details in today’s lead story. In Open Voice, we explore the subject of pregnancy among teenagers. We seek students’ views on the issue and highlight the dangers of early pregnancy with the hope of discouraging irresponsible behaviour among schoolchildren. We also visit the ‘legacy’ tree in the compound that’s widely considered to be home to many kings of ancient Rwanda and the students who toured the area recently explain its significance to modern Rwanda. Have a great week! education@newtimes.co.rw
