The local basketball league is set to restart next Saturday according to the Rwanda Basketball Federation (Ferwaba). The league was put on hold towards the end of July to pave way for the national team’s preparations ahead of the men’s Afro-basket competitions that were staged in Angola last month. It was further delayed by the Federation’s preparations ahead of the just concluded Zone V club championship which was staged in Kigali.“The Afro-basket competitions as well as the Zone V Championship directly contributed to the hold,” the federation’s secretary general Jean Lucien Mugabo said before adding that, “Before we get started with the second round, we are going to wind up with postponed first round ties”. Ferwaba has identified Amahoro indoor courts and Premature as the official venues for the second round.“We shall use Amahoro and Premature courts but we could stretch out to other courts depending on the fixtures on a given day,” Mugabo added. In the men’s category, CSK A and Espoir are in command of pool A and B while APR dictates in the ladies’ group.APR’s Cliff Owuor sides with the federation on choosing to delay the league by an extra week after the climax of the club championship.“My players had a tiring tournament and needed some time to get back into shape. In fact, I think I also needed some time off the court,” the Kenyan who is still celebrating APR’s club championship success said.Ends
