The last time the two sides met at this venue was in October 2008 when they settled for a 1-1 draw with Albert Nyumbayire opening the scoring for Rayon Sports before Ndjoli Bokungu equalised for APR. This clash has, for the last two decades, set the stage for a typical domestic derby, the biggest in Rwanda and will once again present a platform for bragging rights. Last season, record league winners, APR won the first round encounter 2-1 before Rayon Sports defeated the military side 2-1 in the second round. This season, APR beat the Blues 2-1 and the latter will be hoping for revenge.
