RESULTS APR 74-54 Marine Rusizi 74-72 CSKUNR 93-69 KIE APR made it nine wins in as many games and established a six-point gap atop the National Basketball League following Saturday’s convincing 74-54 victory over reigning champions Marine at Amahoro Indoor Stadium. Signed from DR. Congo’s Mazembe at the beginning of the season, Mike Buvangu produced another outstanding performance after scoring a game-high 22 points including two dazzling slam dunks that earned him a standing ovation from the modest crowd. It was an eye-catching show from the point guard who was rarely used after collecting three fouls in the first quarter. Last year’s Zone five club championships’ Most Valuable Player Issa Ngoga added 14 points for the indomitable lions. Marine played to APR’s fast pace and were down 13-10 at the end of first quarter despite scoring four quick points after the tip-off whistle. The 2005 and 2006 champions have now amassed 27 points. Marines are meanwhile six points off the pace after dropping points against CSK and APR. APR’s coach Cliff Owuor was quick to praise his lads after the display. “They were exceptional. They didn’t allow Marine to play and consequently took the game away from Marine,” he noted. Else where, Rusizi edged last year’s play-off finalists CSK 74-72 in a closely contested game while Kigali Institute of Education (KIE) succumbed to a bitter 69-93 away loss to National University of Rwanda (UNR) in the other bruising clash.
