Editor, Reference is made to the article, “Mushroom growing transforms lives of Kanyinya women” (The New Times, January 13). Any news on this Kigali farm? I think this is the real story here...I have seen it supplying packed meat around town. I think this is a brilliant idea, to have an enterprise specialising in processing local farm products and get supplies from small scale farmers who have no capital, expertise or time to process the products themselves. It is disheartening and inefficient to meet women in the evening with basketful (agataro) of fruits and vegetables after a day roaming around town. It’s more efficient to have them supply to a local processor, allowing them to go home early, tend to their families, or get more stock for the next day. By the way, can anyone explain why (a strong assumption) the women in the evening still have basketful of produce? A basket has maybe 15 medium-sized pineapples at Rwf500; the whole day she could not sell to at least 10 or 12 people. Why? Kigali Girl
