Dear editor, It is good news that teachers are now going to be able to save some money and in the long term prosper, thanks to the new saving scheme. Early this month, the Minister of State for Primary and Secondary school education and other dignitaries launched Umwalimu -SACCO credit and saving scheme, which impressed most teachers around the country. For a long time, teachers have been financially handicapped because of their low salaries, though they offer one of the best services in the country. Again the coming of this kind of initiative project, may be the beginning of a new era and in a few days to come, we may see teacher’s salaries increasing hence attracting many to re-join the profession. Young people in universities have been shying away from the teaching profession because of the low wages and the fact that teachers never prosper. I believe that now things look brighter for those in the teaching sector and frankly, the project was long overdue. We only pray that those who are responsible for the credit and saving scheme live to our expectation and do not steal the money. They should guard the money jealously in order for the teachers to benefit and achieve what they have so far longed for. Kimironko
