Clementine Mukandanga won the 5-km athletics competition dubbed Christmas Run held yesterday at Amahoro National Stadium. 29-year old Mukandanga clocked 14:00 minutes to take the women’s trophy on top of Rwf20, 000 cash prize.Mukandanga has participated in various competitions both local and international most recently she won a bronze medal at the Dar es Salaam half marathon in October. She also participated in this year’s Commonwealth Games in Scotland where she attained the required time to participate in the 2015 All African Games which will take place in the Republic of Congo in September. Meanwhile, Jean Marie Vianney Uwajeneza won the men’s race after clocking 14:20. The event, which was organized by Rwanda National Olympic Committee, attracted runners from countries like Uganda Kenya, Holland, France and Canada. It attracted 80 runners, including 20 foreigners and 60 Rwandans. It was sponsored by the Africa Transformation Network, Rwanda National Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Sports and Culture. Other winners in different age groups, are male: Peter Isota (U-15), Donoth Senga (U-20), Cyprien Niyonzima (U-40) and Jean Marie Vianney Bisangabagabo (over 40) while in the female category: Noella Marrie Bayisenga (U-20), Hester Van de Kuiler (U-40).
