Reference to the story Woes of living with HIV as a woman’, The New Times, December, 4 2014 Editor, Last week, the world over celebrated World Aids Day. In the same spirit, Women Today published a story last week of one woman, Daphrose Mushimiyimana, who was infected with HIV/Aids by her husband. Her story is one of sorrow. I applaud her, and other women who have managed to face with courage the horrible ordeal of living with Aids. However, as I write this, I’m particularly puzzled with the rate at which promiscuous behaviour is rampant in young girls; the mothers of tomorrow. We have all sorts of young girls hanging out with sugar daddies, sugar mummies going for young boys, it is really disturbing. To make it worse, it is not rare to find a group of drunken young boys and girls living recklessly. Now, as much as this applies to both sexes, when it comes to the HIV/Aids stigma, women face it the worst. Let’s stand up and be women who our country can look forward to as future mothers. Let scientific solutions not be the reason for our reckless behaviour. We need to set an example for our young sisters and daughters. By doing this, we will be saving a whole nation. As the government tries to combat the scourge of Aids, let’s also be team players, not team wreckers. Angelique
