Recurrent pimples in the groin

Dear doctor; I have tested negative for STDs but there is this annoying pimples that keeps attacking my groin region, turning almost into boil whenever. It comes even when I have not recently shaven. What could be the problem? Habimana, 27. Dear Habimana, Recurrent pimples appearing on the groin would be in all probability be a herpes simplex infection. Herpes simplex is a viral infection that can occur on lips and pelvic parts. Infection occurs through direct contact with mucosa of genital parts. After gaining entry in the genital, it tends to become dormant and replicates itself. This manifests as sores or vesicles (which resemble pimples over face) which subside after some days and then reappear again. These sores are associated with itching or pain. Scratching or touching them can cause secondary bacterial infection which can form a boil. Superficial fungal infections can also cause rashes in and around the groin, which can be infected after scratching and grow as boil. Eczema or allergy to soap or any cosmetic product used locally can also cause sores/blister, which look like pimple in the groin. A person with diabetes or HIV infection is prone to acquire any one of these infections early and in more severe form. These infections are treatable. It is advisable to get tests done for diabetes and HIV. Keep good personal hygiene and till the problem is solved, avoid unprotected sex, otherwise you run the risk of acquiring more microbes and would be passing on germs to a partner. Consulting a dermatologist would also be useful.
