Rwandan voaclist Kaya Byinshii, opened the Volkano Fest taking place in Musanze, with an energetic live performance that left many revelers wanting more. The Nyege Nyege-like event kicked off on Friday October 6, and runs until Sunday October 8, at the Volcano Resort, where hundreds of music lovers from different countries convened to experience various styles of art. By 6:00 pm, people had started arriving at the venue where different deejays including Dub Jam of Germany delivered good music through their 30 minutes set that was highly dominated by house and EDM music. Kaya Byinshii and the Nephews Band took the stage at around 9:00 am, performing most songs on Kaya Byinshii’s recent album, and the rest was history. The celebrated Rwandan female artiste performed her hit songs like Mana Yi’Rwanda, Turakina, and Eden among others, all which are on her recently released album titled ‘Kwiyuburura’. Her performance was arguably regarded as the best of day one of the festival, having pulled a moving crowd that consisted big names in the music industry including B Threy and Macheal Makembe among others. Speaking to The New Times after the show, Byinshii said that Volkano Fest is one of the best music events that connects people through the art of music, and only one that can make people travel miles to camp for three days just for the love of music. “Volkano Fest has always been good for international and local artistes to meet, connect and learn from each other. It’s always good playing here and I’ve enjoyed every second of it,” she said. Day two of the festival is expected to be better than the first with a long line-up of performers from big names such as B Threy, Angel Mutoni and Michael Makembe among others. The festival also offers an opportunity for entrepreneurs in tourism, trade, crafts, and more in the service industry to offer various products and services to the diverse audience that attends the festivities hence contributing to the growth of the local economy. Volkano Fest is a cultural movement that connects communities through the universal language of art. With each edition, it aims to ignite imaginations, challenge perceptions, and inspire positive change. By providing a vibrant platform for artistic expression, cultural exchange, and environmental awareness, the event shines a spotlight on the immense power of creativity in shaping a brighter future.
