Dear editor, Contractors currently laying the fibre optic cable around the city have made our beautiful and clean city dusty. This is partly because they take long to cover the areas they have excavated. I therefore urge Kigali City Council (KCC) to reign in the telecommunications companies to dig areas they can cover that day. The open areas and heaps of soil along our roads and on pavements have become a source of dust. In addition, with this dry spell, the dust is blown into shops and supermarkets thereby contaminating the foodstuff. In some areas, you may think Kigali has become a desert. Yes, I am aware that laying the fibre optic cable is aimed at connecting Rwanda to either the Seacom or EASSy submarine cables on the East African coast. With this infrastructure in place, telecommunication services will become cheaper and affordable. Nevertheless, whatever is done should not compromise our health. Nyarugenge
