(Etienne) Felicien Muhikira clocked 46:33.93 to win the anti-corruption race organised by the Office of the Ombudsman in collaboration with the Rwanda Athletics Federation, yesterday. The 15km event that started and ended at Amahoro stadium attracted over 150 participants from all Provinces across the country and was the culmination of countrywide races that have been organised in all the Provinces. Muhikira, who was excited about the remarkable performance said, “Winning today is a result that I will hold close to my heart forever because I prepared for this race very well and now it has paid off.” In the women’s category, Salome Nyirarukundo won comfortably after posting 53:37.91 as Celine Iranzi came second after crossing the line after 55:07.82. The 18-year-old student expressed joy at her win and promised to get better ahead of the new season that starts next month. The Deputy Ombudsman in charge of preventing and fighting corruption, Clement Musangabatware explained the purpose of the race. “It is very important to involve the youth in such an activity because they are the leaders of tomorrow so they will grow up knowing the shortcomings of corruption.” Musangabatware further added that this competition will be organised annually to increase anti-corruption awareness across the country.
