Refurbished park gives Nyagatare facelift

Nyagatare town has a new and impressive look, thanks to the recently rebuilt main bus park. The centrally located park, refurbished at a cost of several million francs, has a parking capacity of about 100 vehicles and is fitted with new lighting and a fresh coat of paint. Renovation works also included replacement of pavements. This is the first major refurbishment of the park since was built several years ago.Alex Kanamugire, a businessman, told The Sunday Times that: “There is enough space for users…The extra size will provide passengers with greater safety and walking comfort”. Ali Musoni, a taxi driver, said the new park gives drivers enough space to park and load passengers. “We used to park in congested areas where it was difficult to load…this time there is enough space for us to park. The place is also clean offering 24 hours access to sanitation. We are happy drivers,” he said. Apart from the new more welcoming entrance of the town, there is a brand new public market with decent shopping malls, just adjacent to the park. The Vice Mayor for Economic Affairs, Stanley Muganwa, said the district was committed to investing in public infrastructure development. He said that the public market and park were the most recent such investments. “It is vital that we improve the shopping and visiting experience for people while ensuring that local businesses and traders benefit. The park and public market are part of the long-term plan to improve the general infrastructure… We shall keep on investing in such projects whenever resources allow,” he said.
