RWANDA RUGBY Federation (RRF) has outlined key strategies aimed at developing the sport across the country. The Federation president Dr Otto Vianney Muhinda said recently that they want to promote the game of rugby in the country with the little resources they have. “Rugby needs to be played at a young age, if we are to develop the sport. We need to work hard and correctly in order to have good and best players in future,” he said. Among the strategies, the sport is to be taken to schools and so far, the sport has been spread to over 139 schools throughout the country. Other issues that were emphasised are effective leadership within the federation and ensuring that all the schools that have the game are well monitored. He noted that besides the league, the federation is committed to continue organising friendly games with countries that are performing slightly well in Rugby. “This will instill confidence and trust in our players and in a few years, we shall have the best rugby national team in the region,” he added. Meanwhile, Rwanda U-19 Rugby team has pulled out of Uganda independence tourney, which is scheduled for October, 9 at Lugogo Rugby club in Kampala. According to Rwanda Rugby Federation Chief Executive Officer, Juma Adams Mugabo, the tournament schedule clashed with the examination period in Rwanda. Many of the players who are students are preparing for their end of term exams and final academic year.
