THE THIRD ROUND of the National Rally Championship, Huye Rally 2014, is set for October 4-5 in Huye District, Southern Province. Huye Rally is held in memory of the late Claude Gakwaya, one of the best Rwandan drivers in the domestic rally history who tragically perished in a motor accident. The rally is also in honour of drivers who were killed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi such as Gitoki and Michel as well as Chantal, who died in a road accident in Uganda while returning from the Pearl of Africa rally. The rally, which will be in its 28th edition, will attract 15 cars; eleven from Rwanda and four from Burundi. Huye Rally is the third on the national calendar following Sprint Rally held in February and Mt. Gorilla Rally in July. The quest for Huye Rall title will be spiced up by reigning national champion Giancarlo Davite, who will be navigated by Sylvia Vindevogel in a Mistubishi Evo X. Other drivers include; Burundian Valery Bukera alongside Khetia Nital in a Subaru N10, Claude Kwizera with Gilbert Rugomwa in a Subaru Impreza N12, Johhny Murengezi with Eric Nzamwita in Subaru Impreza GC8, Mitraros Elefter with Paolo Paganni in Subaru Impreza N10, Burundian Abbas Mohammed with Petros Tissarchontos in Subaru Impreza N10 and Claude Gakwaya with Claude Mugabo in Subaru Impreza N10. Others are Saidi Twizeyimana with Emmanuel Kubwimana in Toyota Celica, Francois Cyatangabo with Herga Ntirushwa in VW Golf GTI, Burundian Jean Jacque Ntwari navigated by Dias Maceri in Toyota Celica, Janvier Mutuga with Jules Uwimana in Toyota Corolla, Burundian Karmal Alif with Armand Nzabarinda in Subaru GCS, Victor Nshuti with Anne Rwigara in Toyota Corolla, Gratien Rutabingwa with Fabrice Yoto in Peugeot 205GTI and Semana Genesse in Peogeot 205GTI. After Huye Rally, there will be two more rounds; Rally de l’Est Memorial Jean Pierre in November 1 and Rallye des Mille Collines set for December 12-13. Davite, last year’s winner leads the standings with 32 points, two ahead of second placed Valerie Bukera from Burundi while Claude Kwizera lies in third spot with 27 points.
