Rwanda beat Somalia 85-71 to register her second win on Wednesday evening in the Fiba Zone 5 Basketball Championship. Rwanda, who defeated Kenya 82-77 on Tuesday, extended their fine recovery following the opening day 63-79 loss to defending champions Egypt, by dismantling the Somalis while attacking in numbers and defending well. Kenneth Gasana who sat out Tuesday’s game due to a groin injury, combined with Lionnel Hakizimana and Kami Kabange in an offensive game approach to help Rwanda lead 44-23 by half time. Rwanda maintained the lead in the third quarter with a 63-42 win as Gasana and Hakizimana put up a good show. In another game of the day, Uganda Gazelles succumbed to their second loss of the tournament. Kenya won the contest Kenya 52-49 to seal their second win after beating Egypt 63-57. Today is a rest day with play resuming on Friday, when Egypt play Kenya (men) and Egypt meet Uganda (women). On Saturday, winless Somalia face Kenya (men), Kenya take on Egypt (women) and Kenya play Uganda (men). Rwanda will be in action against hosts Uganda in a decisive final match of the tournament on Sunday.
