Cultural Fashion Week kicks off in Kigali

THE second edition of the annual Rwanda Cultural Fashion Week started yesterday with 10 design houses expected to share their collections through the runaway show. The venue for the show is City Art in Kimihurura and guests will be treated to informal modeling and demonstrations from new and top fashion designers. Some of the designs that will be showcased at this year’s Rwanda Cultural Fashion Week. The show ends on September 27, with a grand closing ceremony at Petit Stade in Remera. Hosted by IRIS PRO-FILMS 1000 HILLS, the Rwanda Cultural Fashion Week features designs from a variety of cultures across the world. Men’s outfits will be on the display. “This fashion event focuses on giving opportunity to the local fashion designers to showcase their designs and share their ideas with international designers. For local designers, each one of them will showcase his/her unique design,” said event’s organiser Celestine Ntawirema. Guests will be treated to informal modeling. The week-long event will also include be an art exhibition, live painting as well as an expo of artisans. The ‘Best Designer’ and the ‘Best Model will be awarded at the end of the show. The fashion show will among other things, promote local designers and at the same time highlight the culture and tradition of the country. This year’s fashion event will feature local and international designers. During the main event at Petit Stade, the entrance fee will be Rwf3,000, while the VIP tickets will go for Rwf6,000. IRIS PRO-FILMS 1000 HILLS was initiated by Rwandan young men and women, professional filmmakers collaborating with Rwanda Cinema Center, Kwetu Film Institute, Hillywood, Wilfrid Laurier University and Australian Filmmaker David Craig.
