Police in Nyarugenge District on Thursday arrested a bar operator for allegedly selling illegal brew locally known as ‘kill-me-quick’. The suspect, a resident of Kimisagara Sector was also found in possession of four flat screen television sets, worth Rwf10 million, alleged to have been stolen, according to police. The Police spokesperson in the City of Kigali, Supt Modeste Mbabazi, told journalists yesterday that when police learnt the suspect, Jean Bosco Gakamba, was in possession of stolen screens, they searched his home and recovered the screens as well as cartons of the banned liquor were found. “After getting a tip off from the public that he was hiding stolen items in his house, and that he was working closely with thugs by buying stolen merchandise from them, we mounted an operation and found three flat screens in his store, and another one in his bar,” he said “During the search, we found hundreds of cartons of the illegal liquor imported from Uganda,” he said. However, Gakamba refuted the allegations, saying that he had been arrested because clients fought from his bar. Gakamba, currently in police custody in Nyarugenge pending investigations, is likely to face a term of imprisonment ranging from three to five years and a fine of Rwf500, 000 to Rwf5 million, if found guilty.
