Uganda’s top-ranked Deo Akope overcame a strong field of 47 other professionals to win his third Uganda Open title. Ruterana failed in his target to finish in the top ten. Kenyan long hitting Dismas Ndiza scored 284 gross to take first runner-up gong while Ugandan Denis Anguyo returned 286 to finish third. In the amateur category, upcoming 17-year old Taylor Koonce completed his first 72-hole tournament finishing in the top 30 out of 97 golfers from South Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, and Zambia. Not bad at all for the teenager in only his second tournament of the year. Koonce was awarded the third place cup for the amateur division of the Uganda Open Golf Championships. Ugandan Willy Deus Kitata, handicap + 3, emerged the winner of the amateur category after overcoming compatriot Adolf Muhumuza after sudden death victory on hole 12. Kitata trailed Muhumuza by 3 strokes coming into the final day.
