Prosecutors at the International Criminal Court have asked for the case against Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta to be adjourned indefinitely. ICC chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda said she did not have enough evidence to link President Kenyatta to the 2007 post-election violence and cannot therefore proceed with the trial that was due to resume next month. The trial has already been delayed several times, with key witnesses pulling out. Through the AU, African leaders protested the handling of the case, calling for all charges against the Head of State to be dropped. The ICC image has been tainted following repeated accusations of its bias against Africa. Kenyatta’s lawyers have repeatedly said the whole case should be dropped because of a lack of evidence. Kenyatta was elected in 2012, despite facing the charges.
