Editor, Refer to the story “Road carnage: Passengers can stop reckless drivers” (The New Times, July 30). Besides road safety rules and regulations, traffic police alertness and speed governors, we passengers must take responsibility by monitoring drivers’ behaviours on the road and reject such vices as speeding, talking on mobile phones or texting while driving, or drink driving. Some drivers have no manners at all, they lack respect for other road users; and they are really uncouth to say the least. Such people who have no consideration for others, whether bus drivers or motorcycle drivers, shouldn’t be entrusted with people’s lives. They shouldn’t be issued with driving licenses at all. A driving license entitles the owner to use and share public roads. The use of common things entails some responsibility towards others and common utilities. Road etiquette should be obligatory in all driving schools nationwide, please. Andrew, Rwanda
