FORMER APR FC head coach Jean Marie Ntagwabira has been appointed as Sunrise FC technical director, Times Sport has learnt. Ntagwabira has signed a two-year contract with the Rwamagana-based side in a deal whose worth is yet to be revealed. The development was confirmed by Sunrise FC president Engineer Fabrice Habanabakize on Tuesday. “It’s true Ntagwabira is our new technical director for the next two years. Hiring him was an easy decision because of his vast knowledge on local football. He fits well into our targets of developing football in the Eastern Province,” Habanabakize said. He also revealed that the newly promoted side wanted to appoint the former Rwanda international as head coach but opted to make him the technical director due to the fact the later role gives him more powers to oversee the development of the club. The former APR, Rayon Sports, Kiyovu and Atraco FC technician is the only coach to have won the national football league with two different clubs APR (4) and Atraco (1). He was also Dujkovic Ratomir’s assistant in 2004 when Rwanda made its maiden appearance at the finals tournament of the African Cup of Nations held in Tunisia. The 40-year-old Ntagwabira bounces back in Rwanda’s football after completing a two-year ban that he was handed by football association, Ferwafa over match fixing allegations. Meanwhile, the 2013/2014 Turbo King National Football league top-scorer Wai Yeka has joined Sunrise from Musanze on a two-year deal. The DR Congo-born striker topped the scoring chart last season with 14 goals. The team is set to start pre-season training on August 4 ahead of the 2014/15 season, which is scheduled to begin in mid September.
