APE Rugunga claimed the boys’ crown after thrashing APICURE 81-36, while their girls narrowly beat APEGI Giutza 62-61. Speaking to Times Sport, APE Rugunga headmaster Christian Saido, said, “We’re very happy for winning both basketball titles, thanks to players and coaches of both teams. Next up is FEASSA Games and we hope to represent the country well.” In other finals held on Saturday in Muhanga District, national handball league side ES Kigoma of Ruhango District won the boys’ title after registering a 33-19 win over league archrivals Saint Aloys, while APPEGA Gahengeri won the girls’ honour after beating ESI Mukingi 18-17. All the eight finalists in basketball and handball will be among Rwanda’s representatives at this year’s regional post-primary games, (FEASSA Games) to be held in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania in September. Netball, rugby and boys’ volleyball finals were held in Musanze District on Sunday. However, by press time, the results were not known yet. Girls’ volleyball finals will be hosted in Save, Huye District, from July 30 through August 1.
