Wear clothes that compliment your body - Rugege

NALELI Rugege is the founder of The Marion in Kigali, a fashion house that mostly deals in trendy outfits made from African fabric. Rugege graduated from Durban University of Technology in South Africa where she specialised in African illustrations and design. In an interview with Society Magazine’s Doreen Umutesi, Rugege reveals what it’s like to design your own clothes. How would you describe your fashion sense? It depends on the occasion. For formal occasions I enjoy a glamorous look in a fitted and flare dress accessorised with earrings and a pair of heels. But casually I like wearing light blouses and jeans accessorised with a colourful scarf in case the weather cools. What’s your favourite clothing item? I just love the print of summer dresses. Where do you shop for clothes? As a fashion designer, I pretty much design most of my clothes but of course once in a while, I can buy something from a store or boutique. What do you consider when shopping clothes? When shopping for clothes, I always consider garments that compliment my body shape. Your favourite fashion accessory? My favourite fashion accessories are bold earrings. What is your favourite clothing item on a guy? A fitted blazer usually looks good on a guy. It’s able to transform a casual look into a formal look on the go. What’s your favourite scent? Gucci Rush is my favourite scent. Any fashion advice? My advice would be to study your body shape and find garments that compliment it. This will then allow you to explore fashion with different looks and colour schemes comfortably.
