Rwandan women will be hoping to cause a major upset on the Black Queens of Ghana when the two sides face off on Wednesday afternoon, September 20, in a 2024 WAFCON Qualifiers first leg encounter at Kigali Pele Stadium. The game promises to be an exciting one as the pair prepare to lock horns in what will be their first continental Women's football meeting. Undoubtedly, the home side has a host of great talents at their disposal including the likes of goalkeeper Angeline Ndakimana, Zawadi Usanase, Andersene Uwase, Gloria Nibagwire who can get the needed results for the country at any time. The likes of Princella Adubea, skipper Portia Boakye, Grace Asantewaa are among top players who are already big names on the African continent. Ghana coach Nora Hauptle, who took charge of Ghana job in January 2023, is yet to lose in six games from which her side scored 24 goals without conceding a single goal. She admitted that her ladies always play on natural grass and they are yet to adapt to artificial pitch. But still, she remains optimistic of taking home the victory. We (technical team) were bringing the focus on the technical operatives and getting used to astro turf. We always play on the natural grass but we like it because we are a possession team and we like to always dominate games, Hauptle said. We are pretty convinced that we going to win the game with the good mood in the camp. Rwanda lost 4-3 on aggregate to Uganda in their last two major games at the Kigali Pele Stadium. They drew 3-3 in the first leg and lost 1-0 in the return fixture. If they can improve their performance, beating Ghana on Wednesday can be a realistic target.
