More stolen electronics recovered in Kigali City

The ongoing crackdown on a city gang that has been linked to a series of robberies in the City of Kigali, especially targeting electronics has continued to yield positive results with more gadgets being recovered. The police operation which has so far led to the arrest of three people said to be ringleaders in the night robberies, has led to the recovery of 16 computers, ten TV flat screens and two sets of home theatres. Others include car radios, DVD players and a piano. Police also impounded a vehicle (pick-up) which the suspects were using to transport the stolen items to various destinations in Kigali. The suspects were on Monday paraded before the media at Kicukiro Police Station, where all the recovered equipment were taken. The operation which started last Wednesday had in the first two days led to recovery of 13 television sets, eight computers, 12 mobile phones, three digital cameras, a projector, 12 external hard disks, a printer, generator and home theatres. Most of the equipments were recovered in Kacyiru Sector of Gasabo District while others were found in Kimihurura and Gisozi in the same district. Supt. Modeste Mbabazi, the police spokesperson for the central region said other electronics were recovered in the countryside where they had been sold. “The suspects in custody, who are actually heads of the gang, are cooperating in the entire operation and they have volunteered to tell us where they sold all the stolen items and almost all the gadgets recovered was as a result of information they gave us,” Supt. Mbabazi said. “We have information and a list of other people connected to this robbery ring and other stolen goods that are yet to be recovered,” he added. He also appealed to all those who lost their property to go to Remera Police station to check if they are among the recovered. Seth Butera from Dash Technologies was handed by police nine laptops stolen from the company based in Kimihurura. During an interview, Butera said he reported the theft last week and thanked RNP for swiftly recovering the computers.
