Police launch investigation into missing Green Party member

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Rwanda National Police has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged disappearance of Jean-Damascène Munyeshyaka, who is said to be the Green Party organising secretary. On June 30, Green Party president Frank Habineza reported a case at Nyamata Police Station in Bugesera District alleging that Jean Damascene Munyeshyaka was missing. Habineza, who was in company of Munyeshyakas wife, alleged that he disappeared on the afternoon of June 27 from his residence in Nyamata town. The CID has since launched investigation and is working with family members to establish circumstances surrounding the reported disappearance, Police said. “Rwanda National Police will keep updating the public and especially the concerned family members of developments,” ACP Damas Gatare, the Police Spokesperson said in a statement yesterday. He added: “Family and party members and the general public are therefore urged to refrain from speculation and instead cooperate in the investigation process.” Early last year another Green Party member Omar Leo Oustazi was reported missing. After a couple of weeks, his “disappearance” turned out to be a staged kidnap to hoodwink the public.
