PROMISING rider Valens Ndayisenga claimed the 2014 National Cycling Championship after displaying an unmatched performance in a two-day competition organised by Rwanda Cycling Federation over the weekend. Ndayisenga who has been training in Switzerland, displayed an impressive performance as he successfully won the 126 kilometres Kigali-Huye route on Sunday, a day after he clinched the individual time trial race. The 20-year- old rider pedaled the 126km Kigali-Huye race in three hours, twenty minutes and three seconds to be crowned the champion. The success came a day after he easily triumphed in the 26km Nyanza-Nyamata individual time trial race where he clocked thirty eight minutes, twelve seconds and eleven micro seconds. Ndayisenga attributed his success to the immense endurance and confidence he put into the race. “I was determined to win this championship after undergoing intensive training. I excelled thanks to my stamina and individual techniques,” he added. Hadi Janvier finished second in 3:20:44 while Bonaventure Uwizeyimana came in third position with fourteen micro seconds late. Jeanne d’Arc Girubuntu lifted the women category race after clocking two hours, thirty four minutes and eight micro seconds in the 81km race from Muhanga to Huye. Fifty riders in the men’s category and eight women cyclists’ from Cine Elmay, CCA, Benediction Club, Amis Sportifs, Rapide, Kiramuruzi cycling team and Fry teams took part in the 2014 National Cycling Championship.
