Editor, REFER TO the story, “DR Congo visa policy leaves scores stranded” (The New Times, June 26). I think everybody who knows how the neighbourhood towns of Goma-Gisenyi and Bukavu-Rusizi are can easily notice how these measures taken by the Congolese authorities are socially and economically greatly affecting citizens from both countries. It’s a shame that, while other countries in the world are seeking ways to remove barriers and integrate their economies, Congo seems to be taking the path of isolation. What they are showing is lack of mutual respect towards neighbouring countries, lack of respect of international treaties (in this case CEPGL) by taking unilateral decisions in regional matters.
