Sunshine yellow

There are few better colours to wear than yellow. The bright hue is symbolically linked to happiness, and has been scientifically proven to brighten someone’s mood according to colour psychology. Reminiscent of sunshine and daisy flowers, yellow brings happiness. Even Pharrell Williams, with his globally recognised and loved “Happy” song, wore a yellow outfit for his European performance. Designers are crafting beautiful pieces for the happy colour. American designer Jason Wu, infamous for dressing the US First Lady Michelle Obama at both of her husband’s inaugural balls, created a strapless yellow cocktail dress. The slight sweetheart neckline piece has a fitted bodice, and a large flared skirt. The yellow silk fabric gives it a glamorous feel. Inspired by 1960’s style, Italian designer Gucci crafted a mustard yellow jersey dress. The short-sleeved mid-length fitted dress features a large matching belt. The dress also takes inspiration from the more modern minimalistic style, with illusion seems and a geometric cut. On the same 1960’s style note, another Italian design house, Valentino, crafted a bright yellow shift dress. The short-sleeved mini-dress features draped bow detailing. The back of the dress flares at the bottom, creating an illusion micro train. French fashion house Saint Laurent created another shift dress. The sleeveless loose-fitting neon piece hits above the knee. The piece is accented with a skinny black belt for a stark contrast. American fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg crafted a yellow and white brocade V-neck fitted dress. The item has a large exaggerated sash that ties around the waist to give the piece additional character. And large global brand BCBG with creative director Max Azria created a sweetheart neckline chiffon tiered dress. The seduction of the short hem-line balances with the soft femininity of the fabric and multi-tiers. The fashion beautiful are wearing this bright and cheerful colour. Kenyan stunner and Os-car winner for her role in 12 Years a Slave, Lupita Nyong’o, wore a full-length J. Mendel chiffon and silk v-neck gown. She paired with a metallic clutch and a silver ring. American actress Emma Stone, known most prominently for her roles in the new Spider-man movie series, wore a full-length yellow Versace gown. She left her red hair down in an old Hollywood glamour style with slight waves. She paired with a thick gold chain around her neck and bright red lipstick. But it was songstress Rihanna who proved that yellow can also have a rocker twist. She wore an Alexandre Vautheir high slit, low-cut silk shirt gown. She paired with a silk long silver chain, silver hoop earrings, long nails, and sky high silver heels. Her tattoos also added to the edgy style. This colour can be worn any style, anyway. If you have a more feminine style, choose ligh-ter fabrics like chiffon and tailoring with large skirts and soft romantic hair.
