FORMER AMAVUBI interim coach Andre Cassa Mbungo is looking forward to extending his contract with Kigali City Sponsored side AS Kigali after going six months without any contract. Mbungo was the interim coach for Amavubi before Briton Stephane Constantine took over in mid May. He was supposed to be retained on the technical team but the latter preferred APR coach Vincent Mashami to work as his assistant coach. However, a confident Mbungo has now shifted his attention to concentrate on his successful club career. He told Times Sport yesterday, “I am starting talks with AS Kigali next week. I am keen to stay with this club and our policy of featuring talented local players will remain unchanged.” He said his aim is to build a strong AS Kigali team for the future. “If I agree terms with AS Kigali, I will start recruiting young players who will help me achieve our mission next season which is to compete at the high level,” Mbungo added. In the 2012/2013 season, Mbungo helped AS Kigali win the Peace Cup and finished in sixth position, while last season, the club finished in third position but failed to retain the title of Peace Cup. He also helped the team to reach the third round of the Caf Confederation Cup; the first for any Rwandan club in as far as continental club football is concerned.
