Editor, THIS IS with reference to the story, “Govt creates new force to replace local defence” (The New Times, June 24) This is a timely decision on the part of the Government of Rwanda. There are a big number of citizens who are not comfortable with local defence at all; with the main reason being that the force is far away from being professional. Now that the District Administration Security Support Organ (Dasso) is going to be trained by a highly disciplined and professional force (Rwanda National Police), this makes me overly happy and secure. Not only will this new force ensure that security is prevalent in the whole country—they will also deal with matters in a professional way. What we Rwandans should do is facilitate them do their work for the betterment of all citizens of Rwanda. With them, Rwanda is even going to be more secure and investment-friendly. Once again, I thank the Government of Rwanda for this tremendous step. Dan Rumanzi, Rwanda *********************** DASSO COMES at the time when the region is engulfed in terrorist acts. Look at what’s taking place in Kenya and some parts of the East African Community. We can’t say it can’t happen in Rwanda—but we should at least be proactive to ensure that the citizens of this country are secure, that they are doing their business in a secure environment, and that the visitors feel home whenever they are in Rwanda. Rwanda is a beautiful country, and every visitor should feel secure whenever travelling all around the country. No one will ever touch you even if you come home at midnight.
