RAYON Sports won two of their three games against APR in the ongoing national volleyball league first round play-offs over the weekend. League debutants Rayon Sports won the first match (3-1) on Saturday in four sets despite losing the first set 28-26 to APR before recovering to take the next three sets; 25-23, 25-14 and 25-21. On Sunday, former champions APR overturned tables on the rivals and won the second match in five sets (3-2), 25-22, 16-25, 27-25, 25-22 and 18-16 in the decisive set. But Rayon came back to win the third match in four sets (3-1), 25-22, 25-20, 13-25 and 25-17. Rayon Sports’ Nelson Murangwa, Ivan Mahoro, Olivier Ntagengwa and Pierre Marshal Kwizera were the biggest contributors to their team’s triumph. In the third-place play-offs, Eastern Province-based INATEK beat KVC in five sets (3-2) on Saturday and in four sets (3-1) on Sunday respectively. As it stands before the second round, APR lead with 45 points, two ahead of Rayon in second position, while KVC and INATEK come third and fourth respectively. In the women’s league, Rwanda Revenue Authority beat archrivals APR in four sets (25-17, 25-22, 21-25, 25-18) to go six points clear on top.
