How the Use of IDs to travel, EAC Tourist Visa & Single Customs Territory have shaped Integration

Rwandans, Ugandans and Kenyans are reaping high in the newly launched use of National Identity /voters/student cards as a travel document within the three countries. Travelers, traders, students and others travelling within 3 Partner States no longer have to worry carrying their passports and spending much time at the borders or airports lining up for clearing. The use of IDs takes seconds for a passenger to cross and this has facilitated the easy movement of imports and exports especially The ID initiative intends to facilitate free movement of people within the region as a provision for the East African Common Market Protocol, the Second stage of the integration process The use of IDs commenced on 1 January 2014, but was officially launched by the three Heads of State on 20th February in Kampala during the fourth EAC Integration Projects Summit.
