African giants Egypt, Tunisia, Cameroon as well as Tanzania and Congo Brazzaville have snubbed this year’s Genocide memorial volleyball tournament, which will kick off today. According to the tournament organisers, the Rwanda Volleyball Federation, the countries got invitations to send teams for the event but none responded. Teams from Uganda, Kenya, and Burundi started arriving in the country yesterday ahead of the event, which starts today and ends on Sunday at different courts within City of Kigali. Democratic Republic of Congo will be represented by Espoir volleyball club in both the men and women categories. Hosts Rwanda will enter eight teams-four for men and four in the women’s category. The matches will be played at Amahoro indoor stadium, Kimisagara Youth Sports Centre, University of Rwanda College of Science and Technology and Caisse Socialle courts. Rwanda’s INATEK and Kenya’s Pipeline are the defending champions in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.
