Editor, This letter is in reference to the article titled, “Indian, Zim companies open shop in Rwanda”,which appeared in The New Times on May 30. Please allow me to share with your esteemed readers, that apart from promoting trade, tourism and investments, “Rwanda Calling” also explores avenues of helping the youth of this great nation in their quest for excellence. The first edition of Rwanda Calling opened up a career door for Ms. Elina Uwizeyimana, a Genocide survivor, who was selected by one of our delegates from Thailand (Mrs. Narierut Pantong, Managing Director, Nisco Group of Companies) to undergo a six-month training in Bangkok. Ms. Uwizeyimana, who is presently in Bangkok, will return to Kigali and head the operations of the Nisco Trading Company which is registered by Rwanda Development Board (RDB). As part of Kwibuka 20, your esteemed newspaper covered the life story of another hard working Genocide survivor—Ms. Charlotte Twahirwa. Her touching story prompted us to invite her for the International Business Forum held on May 26, 2014 at the Kigali Serena Hotel. We gave the 22-year-old Twahirwa an opportunity to share her life story with the distinguished delegates from Rwanda, India, Dubai, Uganda, Zimbabwe and the Kingdom of Lesotho. Ms. Twahirwa clarified that she was not looking for “charity”, but rather for a suitable job opportunity in line with her education in computer technology. What could be more satisfying than the fact that one of the delegates spontaneously responded to Twahirwa and has already offered her a one-month internship effective June 7, 2014 and a suitable job position thereafter? It was only through The New Times that we came to know about Twahirwa. “Rwanda Calling” shall strive to support the youth and groom them to become leaders of tomorrow.
